MEET THE ALTER EAGLES

Sam Confrey

Lead vocals, guitars, mandolin, drums & percussion

The Alter Eagles' original lead singer and front man, Sam's vocal prowess is legendary. He's able to handle the full range of the Eagles' extensive repertoire from country rock to sweeping big ballads and then stand toe to toe with the rocking numbers as the set really takes off. Blessed with Henley's exquisite timing, Frey's warm country tones and Joe Walsh's sense of mischief, he’s been the main voice of the Alter Eagles since the band began (with the exception of two years off for good behaviour).

Jay Stezaker

Guitars, vocals

A key player in the Brighton music scene thanks to his ferocious Malmsteen-esque speed work and Clapton-style guitar wailing. Signed to the Stones' Beggars Banquet label with the highly rated Some Weird Sin, he did two years with Indie band August, releasing two albums and a single - Big Time, Big Talk - which charted in the US. The inspiration behind metal-popsters Sins & Issues, Jay’s in demand as a session player and his blistering guitar work and extraordinary vocal range are an integral part of the Alter Eagles' sound.

Alan Tomkins

Keys, guitar, vocals

Played his first paid gig at 16 (not long after which he supported the great Brian Poole) and has been in bands ever since, covering other peoples' material but also writing and performing his own. Famously played to a breathless audience of 34,000 people, though not all at the same time - his band was a regular and much-admired part of London Marathon day. One of the founders of the Alter Eagles, his lifelong love affair with the piano is evident in masterful interpretations of key Eagles' ballads like Desperado and Wasted Time.

Mike Bradley

Guitars, vocals

A graduate of the distinguished Academy Of Contemporary Music, Mike has been playing the guitar for nearly 20 years. A full time musician and accomplished songwriter, he works with many bands (he was an integral part of indie-rockers Bifteck for four years) and does sessions both live and in the studio. You've certainly seen him on TV as well - most recently duetting with X-Factor’s Sam Bailey on Please Come Home for Christmas. People don't think of Mike and his guitar as two separate objects..they think of them as one.

Matt Hobson

Drums & percussion

Matt has been a professional drummer/percussionist for 20 years. A nine year career with HM Royal Marines Band Service saw him playing and touring all over the world, playing to royalty, presidents and prime ministers, the general public and – go on, ask him about it - animals. Matt works a great deal in musical theatre shows and has toured with Rat Pack Las Vegas Spectacular, High School Musical UK and many others. The Eagles music produces plenty of challenges for Matt and he says that “learning Don’s playing has been awesome fun”.

Rob Beattie

Bass, acoustic guitar, vocals

Started playing bass 30 years ago, yet still considers himself a finger-picking acoustic guitarist. Spent most of the 70s in folk clubs, and most of the 80s in the midst of London's folk-rock scene, supporting the likes of Maddy Prior, Martin Simpson, Michael Chapman, Happy Traum (Dylan's banjo player) and once memorably, Richard and Linda Thompson. An occasional songwriter - two of his best, Red Tide and Man in the Water have been covered by Fairport Convention - he's a big admirer of Timothy B. Schmit's solid, no-frills bass guitar style.
